Art at Nafas: Where Wellbeing Meets Creativity
From the very beginning, I’ve wanted Nafas to be about more than movement.
Of course, Yoga, Pilates, Reformer, Breath, Sound and Strength are a huge part of what we do. But the idea behind Nafas has always been broader than the classes on our timetable.
I wanted to create a space that makes you feel something when you walk through the door. Somewhere warm and welcoming. Somewhere to move and breathe, but also to slow down, connect and perhaps discover something new.
And creativity feels very much a part of that.
Introducing Art at Nafas
Rather than filling our walls with artwork chosen simply to complement the interiors, I wanted to use them to create an opportunity for artists and our local community.
So, throughout the year, the walls of Nafas will become an evolving gallery, showcasing the work of different resident artists whose work and stories feel at home within our space.
Each artist will have the opportunity to exhibit a collection at Nafas, share the story behind their work and introduce themselves to the people who move through the studio every week.
Original artwork will also be available to purchase, with prints available where offered by the artist.
It means the studio will continue to change and evolve — and hopefully you'll discover something new each time you visit.
Wellbeing beyond movement
For us, wellbeing doesn't have to mean one thing.
It can be the feeling after a class that challenged you. The stillness at the end of a Sound session. A conversation with someone you haven't met before.
And it can also be standing in front of a piece of art and finding that, for whatever reason, it makes you stop for a moment.
Art can invite reflection, conversation, curiosity and connection. Bringing it into Nafas feels like another way of creating those little moments of pause within everyday life.
Supporting artists and our community
Community is a huge part of what I hope Nafas will become.
Our Resident Artist programme gives us another opportunity to support and celebrate creative people — particularly artists within our local community and surrounding areas — while giving their work a different kind of space in which to be seen.
And I LOVE the idea that someone might come to Nafas for a Pilates or Yoga class and leave having discovered an artist they didn't know before. Or perhaps even a piece of artwork that eventually finds a home on their own wall.
Over time, I'd also love Art at Nafas to extend beyond the walls themselves, with opportunities for creative workshops, conversations and events led by some of the artists we collaborate with.
Could your work have a home at Nafas?
This is just the beginning.
We'll be welcoming our first Nafas Resident Artist this September, and I can't wait to introduce her and the beautiful collection that will be hanging on our walls.
But I'm also already thinking about what comes next.
If you're an artist and feel your work could have a home at Nafas, I'd love to hear from you.
We're particularly interested in work that feels connected to the values we're building the studio around — creativity, connection, community and wellbeing — although we're open to discovering where the programme might take us.
